MINSK, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Janesh Kane said Belarus plays a key role in ensuring global food security.
During an opening ceremony of the Belagro 2025 expo on Tuesday in Minsk, Kane stressed the need to start preparing for future food security challenges such as climate change that is making the food security issue increasingly relevant.
The official emphasized that SCO member states are among the world's largest producers and consumers of agricultural products.
Kane described Belagro as a platform to discuss food security issues and exchange experience among countries.
The Belagro expo is the largest platform to showcase modern agricultural technologies, new farming machinery and advancements in crop production, animal husbandry, fisheries, and food-processing industry.
During the expo, special attention will be given to presenting the agricultural potential of SCO countries, which are represented under the emblem AgroSCO.
